What did my vote mean?

I listened to a discussion on Radio 5 Live yesterday about Tony Blair, and whether he should go sooner rather than later. The presenter suggested that as "the nation had voted for him, he should stay".
Well, only 35.2% of the nation voted for him. The UK have a "first pass the post" electoral system, so he is now the leader of our government. If we heard that an Arab country had elected a leader with such a low level of support, i'm sure the UK government would get involved. So, I'm among the 67.5 % of the population that didn't vote for this government, and they call this democracy?

It feels quite disempowering, doesn't it? It also seems that Tony's contrite 'I will listen to the people' has evaporated and he's just going to forge ahead in his own 'sweet' way.

I think it was on the News Quiz someone said that when Tony started listening to the public he seems to have heard them saying "We want want David Blunkett back in the cabinet!! Make Andrew Adonis a peer!"

Nice blog! :o) An email is slowly forming and will reach you sooon....
